DES FOURMIS DANS LES JAMBES

By André Derainne

The itch to move. A neon study of the departure lounge.

In Des fourmis dans les jambes (a French idiom describing that restless feeling of "pins and needles" before a journey), André Derainne transforms the airport into a vast, geometric playground.

Moving beyond the boredom of waiting, Derainne treats the terminal as a stage of contrasts. He captures the interplay between the living and the inanimate—where travellers drift between day and night, illuminated by the clash of natural sunlight and artificial neon against massive titans of concrete and steel.

The production of this book is technical and precise. While drawn in traditional ink, it is printed using four direct fluorescent offset inks. This allows the pages to vibrate with the same artificial glow found in airport signage and runway lights.
