Kim Hyun Ju
South Korean artist Hyunju Kim creates magical realist worlds through etching and drawing, blending nature, culture, mythology and imagination. Educated at Dankook University (Korea) and Visva-Bharati University (India), she has exhibited and completed residencies across 14 countries since graduation, including the UK, Egypt, France, Serbia, and Australia.
Kim has taught printmaking at prestigious institutions worldwide, including Lalit Kala Academy, National College of Art Lahore, and Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art. Her works have been selected for the Beijing Winter Olympics Print Portfolio (2022) and as a finalist in the International Print Biennial at Taiwan's National Museum of Fine Arts.
Based in Melbourne since 2012, Kim is currently completing an ambitious two-year project designing a complete 78-card tarot deck. Using watercolour and coloured pencils on BFK Rives paper, this project exemplifies her ability to weave mystical elements with technical precision—transforming esoteric concepts into visual narratives that bridge different realities.
