Catalogue: "Tetsuya Noda: A Variation of Mimeograph"
"A fragment of a second settles and becomes eternal."
Since 1968, Tetsuya Noda has used his camera as a visual diary, capturing the fleeting light and shadow of everyday life. Through a meticulous blend of modern screen printing and traditional Japanese woodblock techniques, these transient seconds are immortalised within the tactile fibres of washi paper.
This catalogue focuses on a profound narrative within Noda's Diary series: seven intimate portraits of his daughter, Rika, spanning 42 years. Tracing her journey from childhood to motherhood, the collection acts as a quiet meditation on time, memory, and the enduring constancy of love. Alongside these works, the publication explores the rich history of the mimeograph machine—the analogue precursor to today's independent risograph publishing culture.
About the Artist
Born in 1940, Tetsuya Noda is a master of contemporary Japanese printmaking. A graduate of the Tokyo National University of Fine Art and Music, his work is celebrated for elevating the quiet poetry of daily observations—the blush of a peach, a group of lemons, the wrinkles of traditional paper—into lasting, physical artefacts of a life well-lived.
